Señor J heads into the fog.

A guy named Bill once wrote “Fair is foul, and foul is fair, Hover through the fog and filthy air.”, which pretty much sums up today’s fog shrouded ride. Although not quite “pea soup” in consistency, visibility was down to just a hundred yards or so on some stretches, particularly near the airport. Señor J and I broke out the high visibility yellow gear and strapped on as many obnoxious blinking lights as we had, heck I even attached one to my helmet! Normally we skip riding on very foggy days, but with the century ride coming up, we need to keep building our base miles.

Riding in the thick fog was a “unique” experience full of contrasts. Visibility was drastically reduced which curiously heightened our awareness of the surroundings. The fog kept us cool yet we were sweating profusely since our kits don’t wick well in 100% humidity. And finally there was no wind but the thick dense air made it difficult to pedal against. All unique contrasts which made today’s 30 mile ride a welcomed break from the norm. Interesting as it was, hopefully the fog pattern will break in a couple of days.
