Another Brick

After a good days rest, it was back to running and cycling today. The early morning run was exceptionally cool, with the temperature hovering at about 62°. I’m always surprised at how much easier it is to run when the temperature is low…the exact opposite of cycling. We enjoyed it so much that we both tacked on a little extra to our 5k runs.

Speaking of tacking on distance, we have yet to find a good training plan to gradually work our way up to a half marathon. Sure, there are tons of websites and plans available, but most are for more seasoned runners, or shorter in duration and more intense than the gradual pace we want to take. Since we have ample time untill the Space Coast Marathon, we’ve decided to tack on an extra 1/2 mile each week which should put us at the 13 mile mark around October. It’s a very gradual plan to build up and aclimate to the distance, as well as avoid any kind of injury, with plenty of time to squeeze in some speed work…if so desired. After all, the plan is to complete, not so much compete in the 1/2 marathon come December. If all goes well, then we’ll really work for the bling come January at Disney.

After the run and breakfast…btw I was starving so I broke out the Rasin Bran Crunch instead of the Honey Nut Cheerios…never underestimate the power of raisins…I was off on the bike to join up with the Caloosa Riders for our weekly “not so much recovery ride” down to Coconut Point. Our numbers have dwindled a bit with the exodus of the snowbirds, but it’s still a fun, spirited ride with a lot of good friends. Best of all, the winds were finally back to normal! Pretty much the perfect start to a day, with one small exception…I lost one of my aero bar pads while riding down Tree Line. I doubled back a good 4 to 5 miles, but it was no where to be found. Oh well they were looking a little ratty anyways…I’ll pick up a new pair at Trek this week. Some new bar tape is in order too, after all, one has to pamper The Mistress.
